Iranian officials have welcomed the results of the US midterm elections, framing the vote as a rejection of war. The reaction from Tehran comes as Democrats won control of Congress, a shift that has drawn attention abroad as well as at home, particularly given the ongoing debate over the conflict involving Iran. For Iranian officials, the outcome was read as a signal from American voters that they want an end to military involvement overseas.

The midterm results have also prompted a sharp internal reckoning among Republicans. Erika Kirk, the leader of Turning Point USA, addressed conservatives after the party's setbacks. Kirk is the widow of Charlie Kirk, the founder of the organization, and her remarks came as the movement began to weigh its next steps. She urged humility, positivity and continued work after the defeats, and she warned conservatives against in-fighting as they assess what went wrong.

Kirk pointed to exit polls showing that voters were concerned about the economy and the war with Iran. Those two issues, she suggested, were central to how many Americans cast their ballots. She rejected socialism while urging conservatives to address cost-of-living concerns that weighed heavily on voters, arguing that the movement has to speak directly to everyday financial pressures rather than rely on existing talking points. Turning Point plans a two-year effort aimed at the 2028 presidential race and beyond, a timeline that signals the organization sees the setbacks as the start of a longer project rather than a single electoral moment.

The Democratic gains in Congress were also reflected in a Fox News voter poll, which found that Democrats had won control of the House. The poll and the exit data together offered a snapshot of an electorate focused on economic security and foreign policy, a combination that Democrats have pointed to as the basis of their campaign message and that Republicans are now studying closely.

Television audiences followed the returns closely. According to Nielsen data, NBC News led primetime midterm viewership with an average of 6.8 million viewers. ABC News drew 5.12 million viewers on Election Night, MS NOW drew 4.19 million, CNN 4.17 million and Fox News 4.08 million. CBS News drew 2.73 million primetime viewers, placing it behind the other networks in the ratings for the night.

The political news also arrived alongside developments abroad. Israeli President Isaac Herzog accepted the results of last week's election in his country, a step that opens the next phase of government formation. Herzog said he would consult party leaders on forming a new government, a process that will determine who leads the coalition after the vote. Separately, Ukraine's air force reported that Russia launched more than 300 drones overnight, adding another dimension to a week of major international developments.
