Ana Navarro pushes back on Hunter Biden's claim that Trump is 'already' a dictator
On her podcast, Ana Navarro disagreed with Hunter Biden's assertion that the U.S. has already lost its democracy under President Trump, saying she still has hope in the courts and elections.
Ana Navarro, co-host of «The View,» pushed back on Hunter Biden's assertion that President Donald Trump is already a dictator, saying she still sees guardrails holding in the American system. The exchange came during the second part of an interview with Hunter Biden on Navarro's podcast «Bleep! with Ana Navarro,» where the former president's son argued that democracy in the U.S. is gone regardless of the outcome of the midterm elections.
«He is a dictator... in no uncertain terms,» Hunter Biden said. «Everybody understands this. He has broken the system. It is gone. It is completely broken.» He pointed to the confirmation of Trump's former personal attorney Todd Blanche as attorney general, the prosecution of journalist Don Lemon, and the president's combative exchanges with reporters as evidence that the country has crossed a line.
Navarro, however, stopped short of agreeing with that characterization. «I fled dictatorship,» she said, referring to her escape from the Sandinistas in Nicaragua in 1980. «I live in Miami, where there's a lot of Cuban-American exiles, a lot of Venezuelan-American exiles, a lot of Haitian-American exiles. I think he definitely would like to be a dictator and have no guardrails, have no pushback.» She added that she still has hope in the courts and noted that elections and a free press, despite threats, remain in place.
The conversation highlighted a notable shift in Navarro's rhetoric. In past comments, she has compared Trump to communist dictators and accused him of having «small dictator energy.» During her speech at the 2024 Democratic National Convention, she drew parallels between Trump and leaders like Daniel Ortega, the Castros, and Nicolás Maduro, asking whether any of their tactics sounded familiar to the audience.
Navarro argued that the real problem is the lack of congressional oversight from Republicans, questioning whether Democrats would have the resolve to challenge Trump if they retook the House and Senate. «I don't know that they have the stomach to do some of the s--- that Republicans do without any qualms,» she said.
Hunter Biden also referenced an incident on Air Force One where Trump reportedly told a female reporter to «Be quiet, piggy,» and questioned why no one objected. Navarro asked whether he could imagine his father, former President Joe Biden, behaving that way. «I can't even remotely imagine,» Hunter Biden replied.
White House spokesperson Davis Ingle dismissed the criticism, mocking Hunter Biden in a statement to Fox News Digital. «Just like sleepy Joe, Hunter Biden's brains are fried potatoes. We wish him and his family well during this difficult time,» Ingle said. Fox News Digital reached out to Navarro for comment but did not immediately receive a response.
