Former NFL star Joe Mixon says he flew on same private jet that crashed in Florida
Former Bengals and Texans running back Joe Mixon said he flew on the Learjet 60 about a month before it crashed onto a Florida highway, killing all nine people aboard.
Former NFL running back Joe Mixon has said he was a passenger on the same private jet that crashed onto a Florida highway, killing all nine people on board. Mixon, a two-time Pro Bowl selection who played for the Cincinnati Bengals and Houston Texans, wrote on social media Monday that he flew on the same aircraft about a month earlier, with the same two pilots.
In a post on X, Mixon wrote that he was "absolutely devastated" by the crash and described the pilots as "incredible professionals and genuinely wonderful people." He also expressed sympathy for the families of those aboard, writing that the loss was a tragic reminder of how fragile life is. The Learjet 60 went down in a Palm Beach County neighborhood on Sunday, and the wreckage burned after impact.
The National Transportation Safety Board said Monday that there were indications the jet was breaking apart before it hit the ground. NTSB member Tom Chapman told reporters at a news conference that weather conditions were a major focus of the investigation. "You all saw what the weather was like here at the surface," Chapman said. "What we have to determine is what the weather conditions were like at altitude."
Later Monday, authorities identified the nine victims. Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras, 20, was the co-pilot. Jeff Gregory, 55, was the pilot in charge. Adam Robinson, 45, was a Texas tech entrepreneur who was traveling with his wife, Helen Sharp, and their two children. Rachael Reed and Charmi Fehr were also aboard, traveling together. Gadelha Filgueiras was an aspiring commercial pilot from Palm Beach County who earned her private pilot's license at 17, before getting her driver's license. She trained through her high school's aviation academy and later graduated from American Flyers flight school.
