Ella Langley Says Dream Hunt Is a Massive Whitetail Buck

Country star Ella Langley's resurfaced CMA Fest clip reveals her dream hunt: a big, beefy whitetail buck taken with a rifle. The clip circulates as old hunting photos spark online criticism and her hit 'Choosin' Texas' extends its Billboard record.

Country music star Ella Langley has a clear and simple answer when asked about her dream hunt: a massive whitetail buck, taken with a rifle. In a resurfaced clip from CMA Fest 2024, Langley described the ideal scenario without hesitation, saying her dream would be a big, «beefy» buck. She added that she would prefer to use a rifle, likely her.30-06 or.308, noting she has used the latter to kill plenty of deer. While she acknowledged she could hunt with a bow, she joked that archery involves «a little more guessing game than a rifle.»

The clip has reemerged at a busy moment for Langley, who recently faced a wave of online criticism over her hunting. Old photos of her posing with bucks she harvested in Alabama began circulating again on social media, drawing outrage from critics who treated the images as a revelation. The photos, however, had been posted publicly by Langley herself. The renewed attention has not changed her stated passion for the sport or her willingness to discuss it openly.

Another older hunting clip, recently shared by the Porch Light Unfiltered page on Sept. 21, offers a more serious look at how Langley approaches hunting. Asked about her biggest mistake or regret in the field, she described losing the largest deer she ever killed. She shot the buck in high school, just before she had to take the ACT, and got so excited that she moved too quickly to retrieve it instead of giving the animal enough time. She eventually realized she had jumped the deer, and despite searching with her father, they never recovered it.

«Oh, it haunts me,» Langley said, calling it one of the hardest lessons she has ever learned deer hunting. She explained that beyond losing the animal, the experience bothered her because taking a life is «a serious thing.» That sense of responsibility, rather than any trophy photo, may say more about Langley as a hunter. She was not mourning a missed mount for the wall; she was troubled that she had taken an animal's life and never had the chance to recover it and harvest the meat.

The resurfaced hunting clips reinforce what Langley has never hidden: she hunts, she enjoys it, and she talks about it publicly. The recent outrage over her old deer photos has therefore struck many observers as misplaced, given that the images were already part of her public presence. Langley has not indicated that the criticism is affecting her plans or her outlook.

Meanwhile, her music career continues to reach new heights. Her hit «Choosin' Texas» has now spent 24 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, extending its record as the longest-running chart-topper in the chart's history. The milestone arrives as she continues to pursue the kind of whitetail hunt she described at CMA Fest: a big buck, a rifle, and no need to overcomplicate things.
