Betty Bromage returned to the top wing of a biplane on Aug. 4 at age 97, completing what was reported as her sixth wing walk and extending her own Guinness World Records mark as the oldest female wing walker. Bromage discovered wing walking unusually late in life. She first tried the stunt at 87, and Guinness officially recorded her as the oldest female wing walker in 2022, when she was 93 years and 145 days old. The latest flight carried a charitable purpose. Bromage suffered a stroke in 2025 and used the 2026 attempt to raise money for Cheltenham General Hospital, where she received treatment. One distinction matters: the record is for the oldest female wing walker, not the oldest person overall. Guinness reported in May that 98-year-old Harry Heasman had become the oldest male wing walker.
