Knicks Superfans Name Newborn «Knickson Fyve» After Championship Run

A New York couple expecting their first child during the Knicks' NBA Finals run named their son Knickson Fyve Bradford, honoring the team's five-game victory over the San Antonio Spurs and its first title in 53 years.

A New York couple has given their firstborn son a name that will tie him to basketball history: Knickson Fyve Bradford. The name honors the New York Knicks' five-game NBA Finals victory over the San Antonio Spurs this summer, a championship that ended a 53-year title drought for the franchise.

Yvonne Gonzalez-Bradford and her husband Vance were expecting their son during the Knicks' playoff run. They had already settled on names for their child — Prestige Wisdom for a boy and Lady Victoria for a girl — but the championship changed their plans. The couple told that the historic moment led them to a different choice.

«You know how when something happens so well in your favor, you don't want to jinx it?» Vance said. «I was just like, 'Yep! Absolutely. That's it!'»

The first name, Knickson, is a direct nod to the team. The middle name, Fyve, reflects the «Knicks in Five» slogan that fans rallied around after New York defeated San Antonio in five games. Knickson was born on Aug. 8, weighing eight pounds, eight ounces. He arrived on his mother's birthday.

«We wanted to have a very strong and firm name that would lead to a cool life,» Vance said. «Knickson Fyve is definitely our motto, Knickson Fyve forever!»

The Bradford family's connection to the Knicks runs deeper than this year's title. Vance's mother was a scorekeeper for the 1972-73 Knicks, the team that won the franchise's previous NBA championship. That title stood as the last one New York hoisted until this summer's run, led by Finals MVP Jalen Brunson.

The Knicks raised their first championship banner in 53 years on Tuesday night before tipping off their 2026-27 season at Madison Square Garden. Brunson addressed a sold-out, emotional crowd before the game against LeBron James and the Philadelphia 76ers, thanking fans for their support throughout the playoff run.

For the Bradfords, the name is a permanent marker of a season that meant as much to the city as it did to their family. Knickson Fyve now has no choice but to be a Knicks fan for life, with his name attached to franchise history before he has even attended his first game.
