The appointment came nearly 48 hours after Graham died suddenly from an aortic dissection, a heart condition that can strike without warning. President Trump had publicly endorsed Nordone earlier Monday, writing on Truth Social that «this would be a fabulous tribute to Lindsey, who loved her dearly.» Trump’s backing effectively cleared the field of other potential candidates, including Lieutenant Governor Pam Evette, former Representative Trey Gowdy, and former Senator Jim DeMint, who had been under consideration, according to sources familiar with the discussions.
Nordone, who has largely stayed out of the public eye, is married to Larry Nordone and has two daughters. She has worked as a commissioner for the South Carolina Commission for the Blind, an agency that helps blind and low-vision residents gain employment and independence.
